Most of what I make starts as a conversation — a measurement, a sketch on the back of a receipt, a photo of an awkward corner. From there it becomes a clear drawing, a fixed quote, and four to ten weeks later, a piece of furniture that fits.

Wood I work with
White oak
Open-grained, hard-wearing, warms with age.
Black walnut
Rich chocolate tones; gets softer and browner with sun.
Ash
Pale and springy; takes a finish beautifully.
Hard maple
Tight grain, clean and bright, very durable.
